**Job Summary

**

The Wire EDM Operator & Programmer is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) equipment to produce high‑precision components according to engineering specifications. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with tight tolerances in a manufacturing environment.

**Key Responsibilities

**

• Program, set up, and operate Wire EDM machines to manufacture precision parts

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and job travelers

• Develop and modify CNC programs using CAM software and/or manual machine programming

• Select appropriate wire, guides, power settings, and machining parameters

• Perform machine setups, part alignment, and fixturing

• Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to ensure accuracy and surface finish

• Inspect finished parts using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMMs

• Maintain strict adherence to tolerances and quality requirements

• Troubleshoot machine, programming, and process issues

• Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas clean and organized

• Document production data, program revisions, and inspection results

• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve processes

**Required Qualifications

**

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school preferred

• 3+ years of experience operating and programming Wire EDM machines

• Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles and EDM theory

• Proficiency in reading blueprints and GD&T

• Experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Esprit, or similar)

• Familiarity with common Wire EDM machines (e.g., Mitsubishi, Sodick, Fanuc, Makino)

• Ability to hold tight tolerances (±0.0001" typical)

• Strong math and problem-solving skills

**Preferred Qualifications

**

• Experience in aerospace, medical, tooling, or precision manufacturing environments

• CMM inspection experience

• Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices

• Ability to program complex contours, multiple passes, and fine finishes
