Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field (e.g., Art and Design, Computer Science).


Experience working with or advising secondary school or college students.


Experience using educational technology platforms such as Workday or Navigate.


Familiarity with higher education academic policies, curriculum requirements, and graduation processes.

Job Description:

Summary
Iowa State University’s College of Design is seeking an Academic Advisor I to support students in the Core, Game Design, and Industrial Design programs. This position provides professional academic advising related to degree planning, course selection, academic policies, graduation requirements, degree certification, and degree audits to help ensure students make timely progress toward completion. The advisor also connects students with campus resources that promote academic success and overall wellbeing, including counseling and financial aid services.



Example of Duties

  • Advises students concerning degree planning, academic support services, academic policy issues, graduation requirements, degree certification, degree auditing, etc.
  • Assists students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements including course selections.
  • Refers students to appropriate resources such as counseling, academic success, financial aid, etc.
  • Interprets academic policies and procedures to support student success.
  • Teaches orientation courses.
  • Presents at orientation or other events.
  • Participates in recruitment activities.
  • Advises learning communities.
  • Advises student organizations.
  • May supervise students.

  • Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision
  • Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode
  • Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope
  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained
  • Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate
  • May lead projects of limited scope and complexity
  • May provide guidance to students

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
